MobyDick, A modern Movie Review with Thor

"In the Heart of the Sea"

Movie Review

"In The Heart Of The Sea" was created by Ron Howard. It's a movie putting more thought in the original story "Moby Dick" written by Herman Melville. This movie actually creates a new second part of the original story.

In the beginning of the story, the setting of the movie is in a low class area of England. The tone of the movie at the start is gloomy, grey, and depressing. It brings a failed writer, and a poor couple together, with the husband having a rough time with nightmares of his past, and the writer having trouble with the story of the Essex. The writer goes to the family to figure out what exactly happened on the new England vessel, the Essex, because the husband is the only man alive who knows what actually happened on that boat. The husband refuses, but out of a lack of money that the family needs, the wife begs him to tell the story, so he does.

In the rising action, the movie flash backs into the ship where the husband was only a mere boy at the time. The ship was sturdy, and the crew mates were fierce, and hunting for sperm whales was their task. New faces were introduced, like the captain, George Pollard, or Owen Chase. While finding an island, they are introduced to a breeding ground of sperm whales in the ocean, with a big sperm whale protecting them. They go anyway, and their boat sinks because the Protecting whale knocked it into the ocean. So now they are stranded on little row boats in the middle of the Atlantic ocean.

For the climax, all of the cremates become hungry, and one of them dies because of it. So they had to make the decision to leave the dead, or eat it. So they prepared the body, and ate the remains of the carcus.

The falling action is when they are literally dying of no food, the protecting whale comes back, but the crew does not even make an effort to kill it. So it leaves them alone for them to die of starvation.

In the end, they get saved from a fishing boat near land to find whats left of the row boats. The husband feels good telling the story, because he had that evil for so long, that he told the writer to keep his money that was about to be given to their family. So the writer goes on to then write the classic "Moby Dick" and the movie ends.

The acting fell off at the end because all of them starving, the graphics were old and lazily made, everything felt off and average because of the script for the characters just dying for half the movie. I feel like most of the story focused too much on starvation rather then the characters themselves. More scenes should have been on the whale too because the whale just destroyed the whole ship, left, came back, looked at the crew mates, and left for the rest of the film. I would have preferred the whale be the stand point for the story, just how it is like the original story.
